Secure Additive Manufacturing Using Blockchain Technology with SAMPL Project
Because additive manufacturing processes quickly creates prototypes and spare parts for example, a number of security and copyright issues arise. Companies must take measures to have only authorized users have access to the data, ensure the original data is printed, and prevent pirate copies for being created. A solution prototype was developed within the framework of the SAMPL project by PROSTEP along with several other partners.
SAMPLE is a consortium project sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) whose aim is to develop a full security solution for additive manufacturing. The security solution would cover the initial creation of 3D print data to exchanging data with 3D print providers and their printers using RFID chips.
The foundation of the solution is PROSTEP’s data exchange platform OpenDXM GlobalX which includes an integrated digital license management component based on blockchain technology.
